Julian Haart's venture into the limestone-rich soils of the Zellertal, specifically the legendary Zellerweg am Schwarzen Herrgott vineyard on the border of Rheinhessen and the Pfalz, represents a fascinating departure from his steep-slope Mosel slate terroir. The vineyard's name, Am Schwarzen Herrgott (At the Black Lord), is steeped in local lore, referencing an ancient black stone crucifix that has watched over these vines for centuries. Unlike the Mosel, this terroir is defined by massive limestone deposits, which impart a distinctively chalky, saline, and structural character to the Riesling. Haart applies his signature meticulous, low-intervention approach here—spontaneous fermentation and careful aging—resulting in a wine of incredible tension, vibrating energy, and a profound, mineral-driven depth that beautifully marries his precision winemaking with Rheinhessen's powerful limestone terroir.

Established in 2010 by Julian Haart in the historic winegrowing village of Piesport, this Mosel estate has quickly risen to cult status. Having trained under legendary mentors like Klaus Peter Keller and Egon Müller, Haart applies a meticulous, hands-on approach to farming steep, slate-rich grand cru vineyards such as Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Schubertslay, and Wintricher Ohligsberg. The estate's winemaking philosophy relies on organic viticulture, spontaneous fermentation in traditional oak Fuder, and minimal intervention to preserve the natural tension and purity of the fruit. Julian Haart is globally celebrated for producing incredibly precise, mineral-driven, and elegant Rieslings, particularly his legendary, feather-light Kabinett expressions.
