Kavalan's 'Podium' Single Malt Whisky is a masterclass in wood management, showcasing the innovative spirit of Taiwan's premier distillery. Crafted in the subtropical climate of Yilan County, where the intense heat accelerates the interaction between spirit and wood, Podium is aged in a unique combination of brand-new virgin American oak casks and Kavalan's own high-quality refill casks. This meticulous maturation process yields a highly complex, elegant expression. The nose opens with delicate floral notes, warm vanilla, and coconut, transitioning into a palate rich with tropical fruits like mango and green apple, balanced by a gentle, peppery spice. The name 'Podium' itself pays homage to Kavalan's triumphant rise on the international spirits stage, proving that world-class single malts can thrive far outside traditional cool-climate regions.

Kavalan Distillery blev grundlagt i 2005 af King Car Group under ledelse af grundlægger Tien-Tsai Lee og er beliggende i Yuanshan i Yilan-distriktet på Taiwan. Destilleriet er opkaldt efter det oprindelige Kavalan-folk fra Yilan-sletten og var pioner inden for taiwansk single malt whisky i verdensklasse, skabt på mineralrigt smeltevand fra den nærliggende Snow Mountain-bjergkæde. Kavalan drager fuld fordel af Taiwans intense, subtropiske klima, som fremskynder fadmodningen markant og tilfører whiskyen en usædvanlig kompleks, rig og moden smagsprofil på ganske kort tid.
