Kavalan's Vinho Barrique is a legendary expression that showcases the distillery's innovative spirit and the unique subtropical climate of Yilan County, Taiwan. The name 'Kavalan' honors the indigenous people of the region, a land blessed with pristine, mineral-rich meltwater from the Snow Mountain range. This expression is matured in American oak wine barrels that have been meticulously treated using the revolutionary STR (Shaving, Toasting, Re-charring) technique, pioneered by the late whisky expert Dr. Jim Swan. This intensive process coaxes out rich, caramelized sugars and deep wood flavors from the casks. Combined with Taiwan's intense heat, this dramatically accelerates the maturation process, resulting in a single malt of astonishing complexity, boasting notes of dark chocolate, ripe melon, caramelized brown sugar, and complex spices.

Kavalan Distillery blev grundlagt i 2005 af King Car Group under ledelse af grundlægger Tien-Tsai Lee og er beliggende i Yuanshan i Yilan-distriktet på Taiwan.
