The Hochheimer Hölle vineyard is steeped in history, with its name deriving not from the German word for 'hell,' but from the Middle High German word 'Halde,' meaning a steep slope. Situated near the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers, this vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate where autumn mists rise from the water, creating the perfect conditions for Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot. The heavy clay-loess soils of the Hölle retain heat and moisture, imparting a profound mineral depth to the grapes. For this Beerenauslese Goldkapsel, Weingut Künstler's vineyard team meticulously hand-harvests shriveled, botrytized berries one by one. Re-established in 1965 by Franz Künstler in Hochheim am Main, Weingut Künstler carries forward a family winemaking heritage dating back to 1648 in Moravia.
