Hailing from the legendary Barrio de la Estación in Haro, the spiritual heart of Rioja, Marqués de Haro is a distinguished creation from the historic house of La Rioja Alta, S.A. Founded in 1890 by five Basque and Riojan families, the winery remains a bastion of traditional Rioja winemaking. Named in honor of the historic title associated with the town of Haro, this wine is typically crafted from a meticulous selection of old-vine Tempranillo complemented by Graciano. It undergoes classic long-term aging in American oak casks handcrafted by the estate's in-house coopers. The terroir of Rioja Alta, characterized by iron-clay and alluvial soils influenced by a cooling Atlantic climate, imparts a signature bright acidity, elegant structure, and complex aromatic profile featuring red berries, leather, tobacco, and sweet spices.

La Rioja Alta, S.A. blev grundlagt i 1890 af fem visionære baskiske og riojanske familier i Haros historiske stationskvarter, Barrio de la Estación, og fremstår i dag som et af de mest urokkelige pejlemærker for klassisk vinfremstilling i Rioja. Vingården er kompromisløst dedikeret til kvalitet og autentisk håndværk; de råder over eget bødkeri til fremstilling af deres amerikanske egetræsfade og holder fortsat fast i den hævdvundne tradition med manuel omstikning ved levende lys. Husets fokus er rettet mod førsteklasses egne vinmarker fordelt over Rioja Alta og Rioja Oriental, hvor Tempranillo harmonisk forenes med Garnacha, Graciano og Mazuelo.
