Lagavulin 16 Year Old is a benchmark Islay single malt Scotch whisky. It is produced from heavily peated malted barley and undergoes a slow distillation in pear-shaped copper pot stills, which maximizes copper contact and refines the heavy phenols. The spirit is matured for a minimum of 16 years, predominantly in ex-bourbon oak casks with a portion matured in ex-sherry casks. This extensive maturation imparts a complex profile characterized by intense peat smoke, maritime notes of iodine and seaweed, balanced by a rich, dried-fruit sweetness and a long, warming finish. It is bottled at 43% ABV.
