Laphroaig, nestled on the rugged south coast of Islay, is legendary for its uncompromisingly smoky, medicinal, and peat-forward single malts. The 'Cairdeas' series, meaning 'friendship' in Gaelic, is an annual release crafted to celebrate the global Friends of Laphroaig community. The 2017 bottling pays homage to the distillery's famous Quarter Cask expression. By transferring the spirit from standard ex-bourbon barrels into much smaller quarter casks, the liquid achieves up to 30% greater contact with the American oak, accelerating maturation and imparting intense notes of creamy vanilla, sweet pear, and toasted wood. Bottled at a robust cask strength, this expression beautifully balances Laphroaig's signature maritime peat smoke, brine, and medicinal seaweed with the rich, deep oak sweetness derived from the double-maturation process.

Established in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston, Laphroaig Distillery is situated on the rugged south coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Celebrated globally for its distinctively bold, peaty, and medicinal character, the distillery remains one of the few that still utilizes traditional floor maltings to dry its barley over local, hand-cut Islay peat. This artisanal heritage, paired with distillation in unique copper pot stills and maturation primarily in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, defines its legendary portfolio, which includes the iconic 10 Year Old, Quarter Cask, and highly coveted aged limited editions.
