The distillery's water source, the Kilbride Stream, runs over local peat, while their hand-cut Glenmachrie peat moss imparts a distinctively medicinal, iodine, and seaweed-rich smoke. Legend has it that during American Prohibition, Laphroaig was legally imported as a 'medicinal spirit' because its intense, iodine-like aroma convinced customs officials it couldn't possibly be enjoyed for pleasure. This batch captures that historic, untamed character with notes of sweet vanilla, sea salt, and powerful peat smoke.
