Hunter was a visionary who revolutionized Laphroaig by introducing first-fill American white oak ex-bourbon barrels to the maturation process, a decision that forever shaped the distillery's signature profile. Distilled on the rugged, wind-swept shores of Islay, this rare expression has been aged for three decades in those very same first-fill bourbon casks. The result is an extraordinary marriage of Laphroaig's classic medicinal, peat-smoke character with deep, sweet layers of vanilla, stone fruit, manuka honey, and gorse blossom, representing a liquid monument to Islay's distilling heritage.

Laphroaig blev grundlagt i 1815 af brødrene Donald og Alexander Johnston på den rå sydkyst af Isle of Islay og regnes i dag for et af Skotlands mest ikoniske og karakterfulde single malt-destillerier. Destilleriet er berømt for sin kompromisløse, medicinske og maritime profil og holder de stolte håndværkstraditioner i hævd ved selv at håndstikke lokal Islay-tørv fra Glenmachrie samt drive egne, historiske maltgulve. Kombinationen af koldrøgning og blødt, tørveholdigt vand fra Kilbride Reservoir giver en umiskendelig spiritus, der er rig på noter af tang, jod og markant tørverøg.
