The wine takes its name from the historic ornamental pear trees (Pyrus) planted near the vineyards on the famous terra rossa strip, where rich red clay loam sits over a pure limestone base. First released in 1985, Pyrus is crafted as a refined, Bordeaux-style blend. It undergoes traditional fermentation followed by maturation in French oak hogsheads, resulting in a beautifully structured red with signature Coonawarra mint, cassis, and savory cedar notes, underpinned by fine-grained, chalky tannins.
