Hailing from the prestigious Moulin-à-Vent appellation, Clos de Thorins is one of the jewel vineyards of Château des Jacques, which was acquired by Maison Louis Jadot in 1996. This historic site is renowned for its unique terroir, characterized by decomposed pink granite soils rich in manganese, which imparts a distinct mineral depth and robust structure to the wine. Under Jadot's stewardship, winemaking here takes a decidedly Burgundian approach: destemming the grapes, conducting long macerations, and aging the wine in French oak barrels from their own Cadus cooperage. This departs from traditional Beaujolais carbonic maceration, yielding a Gamay of remarkable density, complexity, and age-worthiness that frequently draws comparisons to the fine Pinot Noirs of the Côte d'Or.
