Louis Roederer’s Cristal is the archetype of prestige Champagne, born from a dramatic chapter of imperial history. In 1876, Tsar Alexander II of Russia, living in constant fear of assassination, requested that his personal cuvée be served in clear, flat-bottomed lead-crystal bottles to ensure no explosives could be concealed in the punt. Thus, Cristal was born. Sourced exclusively from the finest Grand Cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs, this iconic cuvée is crafted only in exceptional vintages. The viticulture is deeply rooted in biodynamic principles, reflecting Roederer's commitment to estate-grown purity. Aged for an average of six years on its lees and rested for several months after disgorgement, Cristal is celebrated for its chalky minerality, intense precision, silky texture, and unparalleled capacity to age.
