The 'Coffret 3 Ermite' from M. Chapoutier is a prestigious showcase of one of the world's most legendary single-vineyard wines: Ermitage 'L'Ermite' Rouge. Sourced from the very top of the historic Hermitage hill, near the iconic chapel, this 100% Syrah cuvée is grown on poor, granitic soils that force the ancient vines to dig deep for nutrients. The hill itself is steeped in lore, named after the 13th-century knight Gaspard de Stérimberg, who returned wounded from the Crusades to live as a hermit and tend these steep slopes. Michel Chapoutier, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture, crafts this monument of a wine using extremely low yields, traditional fermentation in concrete vats, and extended aging in oak casks. Each bottle also features Chapoutier's signature braille labeling, a tribute to Maurice de La Sizeranne. The resulting wine is incredibly deep, characterized by intense notes of black fruits, graphite, cold ashes, and exquisite spices.
