Hailing from the steep, granite-terraced slopes of the Saint-Joseph appellation on the right bank of the Rhône River, M. Chapoutier's 'Deschants' Rouge is a masterful expression of cool-climate Syrah. Historically, the wines of this region were highly prized by French royalty and were famously celebrated as 'Vin de Mauves' in Victor Hugo's classic novel, Les Misérables. The name 'Deschants' pays homage to the historic hillside songs of the vineyard workers. Grown on decomposed granite soils, this wine is crafted with traditional vinification techniques and aged for 12 to 18 months in a combination of oak barrels and vats. This careful maturation preserves the vibrant, crunchy dark fruit profile while allowing the signature Northern Rhône notes of cracked black pepper, violets, and smoky minerality to shine through with elegant structure.

Established in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, M. Chapoutier is one of the Rhône Valley's most historic and revered wine producers, currently led by the visionary Michel Chapoutier who transitioned the estate to biodynamic farming in the 1990s.
