Michel Chapoutier's venture into the rugged, sun-drenched Roussillon led to the revitalization of Domaine de Bila-Haut, an ancient estate once situated on the historic border between the Kingdom of France and Aragon. Les Vignes de Bila-Haut Red is a masterful expression of this wild, wind-swept terroir, crafted from a classic blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan. Grown on steep slopes of black and brown schist, gneiss, and limestone, the vines endure intense Mediterranean heat tempered by the cooling Tramontane wind. To preserve the vibrant, dark fruit flavors and the distinct stony minerality of the soil, the wine is vinified and aged primarily in concrete and stainless steel tanks. This approach yields a wine rich in wild herb aromas, ripe blackberries, and a touch of smoky black pepper, embodying the rugged spirit of the ancient Roussillon landscape.
