Markus Molitor is a titan of the Mosel, renowned not only for his monumental Rieslings but also for spearheading the modern renaissance of Mosel Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). The Brauneberger Mandelgraben vineyard, whose name translates to 'almond ditch'—a nod to the exceptionally mild microclimate where almond trees historically blossomed alongside the vines—features steep slopes rich in weathered Devonian slate. This unique terroir imparts a distinct mineral tension and cool-climate elegance to the Pinot Noir. Molitor's '1*' (one star) designation signifies a wine of exceptional finesse and precision. Hand-harvested, fermented with ambient yeasts, and aged in French oak barriques, this red wine offers a seductive bouquet of dark cherries, wild berries, forest floor, and smoky mineral undertones, balanced by silky tannins and a vibrant, refreshing acidity.

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
