✨ wine.spec_sheet

Markus Molitor, often dubbed the quality fanatic of the Mosel, has single-handedly redefined the potential of red winemaking in a region historically dominated by Riesling. The Graacher Himmelreich—literally meaning 'Kingdom of Heaven'—is a legendary steep site characterized by weathered Devonian slate soils. While famous for white wines, Molitor's Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) from this vineyard is a revelation. Sourced from high-density plantings of French Pinot Noir clones on these dizzying slate slopes, the grapes undergo a meticulous selection process. The '3*' (Three Star) designation represents Molitor's absolute pinnacle of quality, indicating a wine of extraordinary depth and complexity. Fermented naturally with wild yeasts and aged in French oak barriques, this wine showcases an ethereal balance of cool-climate acidity, intense slate minerality, and silky red fruit, proving that the Mosel can produce Pinot Noir of true grand cru stature.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
