✨ Technical Specifications
Markus Molitor's Ockfener Bockstein Pinot Noir represents a brilliant revival of red winemaking in the Mosel's cool Saar valley. While the region is globally famous for Riesling, historical records show red grapes flourished here before a 1930s ban. Molitor, who took over his family estate in 1984, has been a pioneer in proving that the steep, south-southwest-facing amphitheater of the Ockfener Bockstein can yield world-class Pinot Noir. The vineyard's Devonian slate soils and unique microclimate imbue the wine with a profound smoky minerality and vibrant acidity. Crafted with meticulous hand-harvesting, wild yeast fermentation in open oak vats, and extensive aging in French barriques, this Pinot Noir is characterized by its tension, silky tannins, and complex aromas of dark cherries, forest floor, and fine spices.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded upon an eighth-generation family viticultural heritage, Weingut Markus Molitor was transformed in 1984 when twenty-year-old Markus Molitor took over the estate at Haus Klosterberg with the dedicated mission of restoring Mosel Riesling to its historic world-class stature. Situated in Bernkastel-Kues in Germany's legendary Mosel region, the winery meticulously cultivates precipitous slate vineyards across renowned grand cru sites such as Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Erdener Treppchen. Molitor practices low yields, ultra-selective late hand-harvesting, and gentle spontaneous fermentation in ancient, deep vaulted cellars with minimal intervention. The estate is globally celebrated for its site-expressive Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dry, off-dry, and botrytized sweet styles—as well as remarkably complex, structured Pinot Noir.
