Markus Molitor’s Saarburger Rausch Auslese 3*** WK (Weiße Kapsel) represents the absolute pinnacle of dry Mosel Riesling, harvested from the dizzyingly steep, slate-laden slopes of the Saar valley. Taking over his family estate in 1984 at just 20 years old, Molitor set out to revive the golden age of Mosel wine, when these terroir-driven whites commanded higher prices than the finest Bordeaux. The legendary 'Rausch' vineyard in Saarburg is famous for its steep, south-facing incline and complex Devonian slate soils, which impart a distinct, smoky minerality. The three-star (3***) designation denotes Molitor's finest selection of highly ripe grapes, while the 'WK' (White Capsule) signifies that this Auslese is fermented dry. Utilizing natural yeasts and extended aging in large, traditional oak casks, this wine achieves a breathtaking balance of rich, concentrated stone fruit, exotic spice, and a piercing, vibrant acidity characteristic of the cool Saar microclimate.
