Markus Molitor, the visionary of the Mosel, has shattered the myth that this cool, slate-laden region is only fit for Riesling. The Trabacher Schlossberg Spätburgunder 3* (Three Stars) stands as a monument to this German red wine revolution. Sourced from the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Trabacher Schlossberg, where ancient Devonian slate soils dominate, this 100% Pinot Noir showcases the breathtaking tension of cool-climate viticulture. Molitor employs meticulous hand-selection, extremely low yields, and spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, followed by extensive aging in French oak barriques. The three-star designation represents the absolute pinnacle of his dry red selections. The result is a wine of haunting aromatic complexity, marrying wild red berries and forest floor with a profound, smoky mineral spine that speaks directly of its steep Mosel origins.

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
