Markus Molitor's Wehlener Klosterberg Pinot Blanc 3* represents a breathtaking departure from the Mosel's Riesling-dominated narrative, proving that Pinot Blanc (Weisser Burgunder) can achieve sublime, world-class heights on steep slate slopes. The Wehlener Klosterberg vineyard, named after the historic monastery that once overlooked these vines, features stony Devonian slate soils that impart a profound mineral tension to the wine. Molitor's three-star designation is his highest tier of selection, reserved for grapes of extraordinary ripeness and concentration. Hand-harvested with meticulous precision, the juice undergoes spontaneous fermentation in traditional large oak casks (Fuder) and rests on its fine lees. This artisanal, patient approach coaxes out a multi-layered masterpiece of ripe stone fruits, smoky mineral undertones, and a creamy, powerful texture balanced by the hallmark Mosel acidity.

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
