✨ Technical Specifications

Markus Molitor’s Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Eiswein represents the pinnacle of extreme, weather-defying winemaking in the Mosel valley. The legendary 'Wehlener Sonnenuhr' (Sundial of Wehlen) vineyard, famous for its dizzyingly steep slopes of weathered blue Devonian slate, was named after the sundial erected in 1842 by Jodocus Prüm. To produce this rare Eiswein, grapes are left on the vine into the freezing depths of winter, harvested by hand only when temperatures drop to at least -7 degrees Celsius. Pressing the frozen grapes yields an incredibly concentrated, golden nectar where the water remains frozen as ice, leaving behind a juice of intense sweetness balanced by electric, laser-like acidity. Molitor's meticulous selection and minimal-intervention philosophy in the cellar result in an Eiswein of profound purity, showcasing crystalline minerality, exotic stone fruits, and an ethereal longevity.

🍾 About the Producer

Founded upon an eighth-generation family viticultural heritage, Weingut Markus Molitor was transformed in 1984 when twenty-year-old Markus Molitor took over the estate at Haus Klosterberg with the dedicated mission of restoring Mosel Riesling to its historic world-class stature. Situated in Bernkastel-Kues in Germany's legendary Mosel region, the winery meticulously cultivates precipitous slate vineyards across renowned grand cru sites such as Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Erdener Treppchen. Molitor practices low yields, ultra-selective late hand-harvesting, and gentle spontaneous fermentation in ancient, deep vaulted cellars with minimal intervention. The estate is globally celebrated for its site-expressive Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dry, off-dry, and botrytized sweet styles—as well as remarkably complex, structured Pinot Noir.
