✨ wine.spec_sheet

Established in 1970 by Enrique Forner, Marques de Caceres revolutionized the Rioja region by introducing modern Bordeaux winemaking techniques under the guidance of the legendary enologist Emile Peynaud. Shifting away from the highly oxidative styles of the era, the estate championed fresher, fruit-driven profiles aged in French oak rather than traditional American oak. Sourced from old, low-yielding bush vines in the clay-limestone soils of Rioja Alta, this Reserva is a classic blend dominated by Tempranillo, with small additions of Graciano and Garnacha. It undergoes a rigorous aging regimen, spending approximately 20 to 22 months in French oak barrels followed by extensive bottle maturation to achieve its signature harmony of dark cherry fruit, refined tannins, and complex notes of leather, tobacco, and sweet spice.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1970 by Enrique Forner in the historic town of Cenicero within Rioja Alta, Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres revolutionized the Rioja region by introducing Bordeaux-style winemaking techniques, including temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation and a greater emphasis on fruit purity over excessive oak aging. Today, under the leadership of Cristina Forner, the family-owned estate has expanded its footprint beyond Rioja to Galicia, Rueda, and Ribera del Duero, crafting a diverse portfolio of elegant, expressive wines. The winery is globally renowned for its classic Tempranillo-dominated reds—ranging from the vibrant Tinto Crianza to the prestigious, old-vine Gaudium and Gran Reserva—as well as crisp, barrel-fermented whites like Antea and refreshing rosés.
