Marques de Riscal, founded in 1858, is a true pioneer of Rioja, famously introducing Bordeaux winemaking techniques to the region. While celebrated for its historic, long-aged Reservas, the estate created Proximo as a vibrant, contemporary tribute to the Tempranillo grape. Sourced from the clay-limestone vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, this wine is crafted to highlight fresh, primary fruit characteristics. Unlike its heavily oaked siblings, Proximo undergoes a brief aging period in oak barrels, resulting in an approachable, supple red wine that captures the youthful energy of Rioja's terroir while maintaining the winery's historic commitment to quality.

Marqués de Riscal blev grundlagt i 1858 af Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga i den historiske by Elciego og er en af de ældste og mest nyskabende vingårde i Rioja. Huset revolutionerede spansk vinavl ved at introducere bordeaux-inspirerede vinifikationsmetoder og fadlagring, hvilket førte til international anerkendelse, da de i 1895 som det første ikke-franske vinhus modtog æresdiplomet ved Bordeaux-udstillingen.
