⏳ wine.drinking_window

Typically best enjoyed 8 to 20 years from the vintage release, as the formidable tannins and high acidity of the Oseleta grape require significant bottle age to fully integrate and soften.

Slow-cooked beef stews, roasted wild game such as venison or wild boar, and mature, hard cheeses like aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.

✨ wine.spec_sheet

Masi's Osar is an extraordinary testament to ampelographic rescue and winemaking audacity. The name itself, meaning 'to dare' in the local Venetian dialect, perfectly captures the spirit of this unique red. In the 1980s, Masi's technical team rediscovered Oseleta, an ancient, low-yielding Veronese grape variety that had been virtually abandoned after the phylloxera epidemic due to its tiny, tightly packed bunches and low juice yield. Recognizing its incredible potential for structure, color, and acidity, Masi revived the variety in the clay-limestone soils of the Veneto region. Osar is a rare, single-varietal expression of Oseleta, showcasing the grape's signature thick skins, intense pigment, and powerful tannic backbone. Aged in French oak barriques to tame its wild nature, this wine bridges the gap between Veneto's forgotten viticultural history and contemporary bold red winemaking, offering a complex profile of dark forest fruits, bitter cocoa, and mineral depth.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1772 when the Boscaini family acquired their first vineyards in the 'Vaio dei Masi' valley, Masi Agricola is a benchmark producer of the Veneto region in northeastern Italy. Still family-owned and led by Sandro Boscaini, the estate is globally renowned for its expertise in the traditional Appassimento technique, where grapes are dried on bamboo racks to concentrate flavors. Masi is celebrated for pioneering the double-fermentation method behind its iconic Campofiorin, as well as crafting legendary Amarone della Valpolicella expressions like Costasera, Mazzano, and Campolongo di Torbe. Their portfolio beautifully bridges heritage and innovation, showcasing the diverse terroirs of Veneto, Friuli, and beyond through expressive red, white, and rosé wines.
