Familia Torres has been a towering pioneer in Catalonia's Penedès region since establishing their winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870. While the estate's 'Mas La Plana' vineyard is globally legendary for its historic red Cabernet Sauvignon, Torres's white winemaking in the Penedès is equally revolutionary. In the mid-20th century, the family modernized Spanish white winemaking by introducing temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation and planting noble international varieties alongside traditional Catalan grapes. The Penedès DO, stretching from the Mediterranean coast up to the high-altitude pre-coastal mountain ranges, features diverse limestone-rich soils and microclimates.
