Hailing from the rugged, sun-baked hills of Costers del Segre in Catalunya, Torres Purgatori carries a legendary history dating back to 1770. The Benedictine monks of Montserrat established the L'Aranyó estate here as a place of penance for rebellious brothers. In this harsh, arid climate, the monks labored to cultivate the land, discovering that the extreme conditions yielded wines of extraordinary intensity. Legend tells of large barrels of wine mysteriously vanishing, attributed by the monks to the angels who visited this 'purgatory.' Today, this deep, dark red is crafted primarily from Cariñena and Garnacha, supplemented by Syrah. The wine undergoes aging in French oak, resulting in a robust profile rich with dark forest fruits, Mediterranean herbs, and a distinctive mineral undertone born from the region's calcareous soils.
