House of Morandé represents the pinnacle of Viña Morandé's winemaking, conceived as a tribute to the visionary spirit of founder Pablo Morandé. This iconic red blend is primarily sourced from the high-density, old-vine San Bernardo vineyard in the Maipo Valley, nestled within Chile's historic Central Valley. Here, alluvial soils rich in gravel and the cooling influence of the Maipo River and Andean drafts create an ideal microclimate for slow, balanced ripening. The wine is crafted with meticulous fruit selection and aged for nearly two years in French oak foudres and barrels, followed by extensive bottle aging. This traditional yet innovative approach yields a wine of immense structure, elegance, and complexity, characterized by deep dark fruit, refined tannins, and a distinct mineral backbone that reflects the classic Maipo terroir.
🍾 About the Producer
Viña Morandé was founded in 1996 by visionary winemaker Pablo Morandé, widely celebrated as the viticultural pioneer who introduced commercial vine plantings to the cool, maritime-influenced Casablanca Valley. Now operating under the Morandé Wine Group umbrella with historical headquarters and cellars centered in Pelequén, the estate farms extensively across prime Chilean macro-terroirs ranging from coastal Casablanca and Limarí to the granitic dry-farmed Secano Interior of Maule and Itata. Under the cellar direction of Ricardo Baettig alongside Pablo Morandé, the winery is renowned for innovative technical methods, including early adoption of high-density plantings, concrete eggs, and traditional untoasted foudres. Across whites and sparkling expressions, the house crafts crisp coastal whites and classical cuvées alongside boundary-pushing benchmark bottlings such as Edición Limitada Black Chardonnay, Bestiario, and the noble rot dessert wine Edición Limitada Golden Harvest Sauvignon Blanc, marrying varietal freshness with textural complexity.
