Hailing from the historic Barrio de la Estacion in Haro, Bodegas Muga stands as a beacon of traditional Rioja winemaking. Founded in 1932, the estate remains deeply committed to artisanal methods, being one of the few wineries in Spain to employ its own master coopers to craft their oak vats and barrels by hand. The Seleccion Especial is a Reserva-tier wine produced only in exceptional vintages. Sourced from clay-limestone terraces in Rioja Alta, the blend is dominated by Tempranillo, complemented by Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. The wine undergoes fermentation in large oak vats and is aged for over two years in custom-made oak barrels, followed by traditional clarification using fresh egg whites. This meticulous process yields a wine of profound complexity, seamless structure, and elegant dark fruit and spice notes.

Bodegas Muga blev grundlagt i 1932 af Isaac Muga og Aurora Caño og regnes i dag blandt Spaniens mest agtede og traditionsrige familiedrevne vinhuse. Ejendommen har hjemme i det legendariske Barrio de la Estación i Haro i Rioja Alta-zonen. Vingården værner urokkeligt om de klassiske vinifikationsmetoder og er blandt de få producenter, der stadig råder over sit eget bødkeri. Her fremstiller husets egne bødker-mestre alle gæringskar og lagringsfade af udsøgt egetræ, ligesom vinene klares naturligt med æggehvider. Mugas sortiment forener på harmonisk vis klassisk elegance med moderne finesse og nyder verdensomspændende anerkendelse for sine ikoniske, lagringsværdige cuvéer – ikke mindst Prado Enea Gran Reserva, Selección Especial og det moderne kraftværk Torre Muga samt de roste Conde de Haro-mousserende vine og udtryksfulde hvid- og rosévine fra Rioja.
