Niepoort's 20 Year Old Moscatel do Douro is a masterclass in the art of wood-aged fortified wines, showcasing a historic dimension of the Douro Valley. While the region is synonymous with Port, the Moscatel Galego Branco grape has been cultivated here for centuries. Niepoort sources these grapes from high-altitude vineyards in the Alijó zone, where cooler nights preserve the vital acidity needed to balance the grape's natural sweetness. Following a traditional fermentation with intensive skin contact and fortification, the wine undergoes a patient, two-decade slumber in seasoned oak casks. Over twenty years of micro-oxygenation, the wine transforms into a deep amber nectar, concentrating its flavors into a complex tapestry of candied orange peel, dried apricots, honey, and exotic spices, underpinned by Niepoort's signature freshness.
