Niepoort's Fabelhaft Branco is a vibrant tribute to the fresh, high-altitude white wines of the Douro Valley. The name 'Fabelhaft' (meaning 'fabulous' in German) is paired with the whimsical illustrations of Wilhelm Busch's classic raven, Hans Huckebein, reflecting Dirk Niepoort's desire to make wine approachable, engaging, and deeply tied to storytelling. Sourced from cool-climate, high-altitude vineyards ranging from 350 to 500 meters above sea level where schist soils dominate, this field blend typically features indigenous Portuguese varieties such as Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Gouveio, and Viosinho. To preserve its bright, mineral-driven character and crisp acidity, the wine is primarily fermented in stainless steel tanks, though a small portion is aged on its fine lees to introduce a subtle, creamy complexity. The result is a beautifully balanced white wine that captures the sun-drenched yet breezy essence of the Douro.

Niepoort blev grundlagt i 1842 af Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort og er et ikonisk, uafhængigt familieejet hus med base i Vila Nova de Gaia og dybe historiske rødder i Portugals Douro-dal. Huset har i over et århundrede været berømt for sine skelsættende Colheita- og Vintage Ports, men gennemgik en dynamisk renæssance under femtegenerations-visionæren Dirk Niepoort, der banede vejen for den moderne æra af uforstærkede Douro-bordvine i absolut topklasse. Med en kompromisløs forkærlighed for gamle vinmarker med field blends, minimal intervention i vinfremstillingen og et unikt terroirudtryk skaber vinhuset hyldede tørre vine som Batuta, Charme og Redoma sideløbende med nyere projekter i Bairrada og Dão. I dag står Niepoort som et globalt beundret pejlemærke for portugisisk vinkunst, der ubesværet forener en tidløs portvinsarv med innovative, elegante og mineralske bordvine.
