Niepoort's Fabelhaft Reserva Tinto is a celebrated expression of the Douro Valley, famously adorned with illustrations by the German humorist Wilhelm Busch, depicting the cautionary tale of the raven Huckebein. This playful presentation belies a serious, beautifully crafted wine. Sourced from the steep, schistous slopes of the Cima Corgo subregion, this Reserva is a traditional blend of indigenous Portuguese grapes, including Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Amarela. Dirk Niepoort's philosophy of balance and freshness shines through here; the wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel before aging in French oak barriques. This process tempers the intense, dark fruit and slatey minerality of the Douro with integrated, elegant tannins, resulting in a wine that is both deeply expressive of its rugged terroir and remarkably approachable.
