✨ wine.spec_sheet

Niepoort's Garrafeira is a legendary and exceedingly rare category of Port, a style that Niepoort has single-handedly kept alive. Unlike any other Port, Garrafeira is crafted from a single exceptional harvest. The wine begins its journey aging in wood for a brief period of three to six years before being transferred into historic, large glass demijohns known as 'garrafões' (ranging from 8 to 11 liters), some of which date back to the 19th century. In these dark green glass vessels, sealed away from oxygen, the wine undergoes a slow, decades-long anaerobic reduction. This unique dual-aging process bridges the gap between the oxidative complexity of an old Tawny and the deep, mineral-driven fruit of a Vintage Port, resulting in an incredibly silky texture, profound elegance, and a complex bouquet of dried fruits, tobacco, and spices.
