Dirk Niepoort's venture into the maritime-influenced Bairrada region led to the acquisition of Quinta de Baixo, where he sought to champion the region's traditional white grapes, Maria Gomes and Bical, from ancient, deep-rooted old vines (Vinhas Velhas). Grown on classic chalky-clay soils, these grapes yield a wine of remarkable tension and saline complexity. Maria Gomes contributes expressive aromatic lift, while Bical provides structural acidity and mineral depth.
