✨ Technical Specifications
Niepoort's 10 Year Old Tawny Port is a masterclass in the art of oxidative aging and blending, reflecting the house's signature style of freshness, elegance, and precision. Sourced from low-yielding old vines in the rugged schist soils of the Cima Corgo region in the Douro Valley, the grapes—including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz—are traditionally foot-trodden in granite lagares. The wine is then transported to the historic, cool cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, where it undergoes a decade of slow maturation in small, seasoned oak casks known as 'pipes'. Over these ten years, the wine sheds its intense primary purple hues, transforming into a brilliant tawny-amber color while developing a complex bouquet of dried fruits, orange peel, and toasted nuts, balanced by a vibrant acidity that is a hallmark of Dirk Niepoort's winemaking philosophy.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1842 by Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, Niepoort is an iconic, independent family-owned house based in Vila Nova de Gaia with historic roots deeply anchored in Portugal's Douro Valley. Renowned for over a century for its benchmark Colheita and Vintage Ports, the estate underwent a dynamic renaissance under fifth-generation visionary Dirk Niepoort, who pioneered the modern era of high-end, unfortified Douro table wines. Championing old field-blend vineyards, low-intervention vinification, and exceptional terroir expression, the producer crafts celebrated dry wines such as Batuta, Charme, and Redoma alongside its expanded projects in Bairrada and the Dão. Today, Niepoort remains a globally revered symbol of Portuguese winemaking, seamlessly bridging timeless fortified heritage with innovative, elegant, and mineral-driven table wines.
