✨ Technical Specifications
Oliver Zeter's Syrah is a testament to the changing viticultural landscape of the Pfalz, a region historically celebrated for Riesling but increasingly recognized for world-class reds. Capitalizing on the Pfalz's remarkably warm, almost Mediterranean microclimate—sheltered by the Haardt Mountains—Zeter was among the pioneers who recognized that late-ripening Rhône varieties could find a second home here. Grown on nutrient-rich loess and limestone soils, the grapes are hand-harvested and undergo traditional fermentation before aging in French oak barriques. This process tempers the grape's natural power, resulting in a wine that beautifully marries Northern Rhône-style cool-climate elegance, marked by cracked black pepper and dark forest fruits, with the plush, ripe structure characteristic of the Pfalz. It is a bold, expressive bottle that challenges traditional German winemaking boundaries.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 2007 by Oliver Zeter and his family, the Oliver Zeter winery is situated in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in the sun-drenched Pfalz region of Germany. Born out of a deep-seated passion for viticulture after years in the international wine trade, the estate gained swift acclaim, symbolized by the iconic 'drinking bear' caricature sketched by artist Otto Heinrich Strohmeyer in the 1930s. Oliver Zeter embraces a modern and meticulous approach to winemaking, championing parcel-specific vinification and selective oak aging to showcase the terroir's diverse sandstone, limestone, and loess soils. The winery is particularly celebrated as a pioneer of multifaceted Sauvignon Blanc in Germany, alongside pure, expressive bottlings of Grauburgunder, Riesling, and distinctive, age-worthy red blends such as 'Z'.
