Le Volte dell'Ornellaia serves as the vibrant, approachable gateway to the legendary Bolgheri estate of Ornellaia, founded in 1981 amidst the maritime breezes of the Tuscan coast. First released in 1991, this cuvée was conceived to capture the generous, Mediterranean spirit of the region in a more immediate, youthful style. The blend artfully marries the plushness of Merlot, which dominates the assemblage, with the structured elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon and the bright, rustic acidity of Tuscany's signature Sangiovese. The grapes are sourced from diverse vineyard plots across Bolgheri, where clay, sand, and limestone soils impart complexity. To preserve its fresh, fruit-forward character while adding subtle complexity, the wine is aged for approximately 10 months in a combination of concrete vats and small oak barriques previously used for the estate's flagship wines. The name 'Le Volte' (the arches) pays homage to the elegant architectural features of the estate and symbolizes the bridge between traditional Italian soul and modern Bordeaux-style blending.
