Owen Roe's red winemaking philosophy in Washington's Yakima Valley is a masterclass in capturing the dramatic, sun-drenched terroir of the Pacific Northwest. Sheltered from coastal rains by the majestic Cascade Mountains, the vineyards experience an arid, semi-desert climate with intense daytime sun and starkly cool nights. This extreme diurnal temperature swing allows the grapes to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness while retaining a vibrant, natural acidity. Drawing inspiration from historical European traditions and named after the legendary 17th-century Irish patriot Owen Roe O'Neill, the winery approaches blending as an art form. Their red wines are crafted using small-batch fermentations and traditional French oak aging, resulting in structured, expressive profiles that showcase the rich dark fruit, refined tannins, and earthy complexity characteristic of the region's finest estate and partner vineyards.

Owen Roe blev grundlagt i 1999 af vinmageren David O'Reilly og Jerry McNally med en klar ambition om at skabe terroir-drevne vine i verdensklasse fra de ypperste vinmarker i Pacific Northwest. Vingården er opkaldt efter den irske 1600-tals-patriot Owen Roe O'Neill og råder over egne faciliteter samt opkøber druer på tværs af både Columbia Valley og Yakima Valley i Washington samt Willamette Valley i Oregon. Owen Roe arbejder ud fra en filosofi om minimal indgriben, hvor nænsom vinfremstilling og en velafbalanceret fadlagring bringer det unikke særpræg frem fra berømte marker som DuBrul, Red Willow og Union Gap. Huset er særligt anerkendt for sine nuancerede enkeltmarks-vine på Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah og Cabernet Franc samt populære og karakterfulde blends som Sinister Hand, Ex Umbris og Abbot's Table.
