The Union Gap Vineyard Syrah is a profound expression of Owen Roe's estate vineyard, situated at the narrowest point of the Yakima Valley where the river cuts through ancient basalt ridges. This unique geological formation creates a steep, south-facing amphitheater of gravelly, basalt-rich soils and river cobbles. The vines struggle in these well-drained soils, yielding small, concentrated berries. Winemaker David O'Reilly utilizes small-batch fermentation and careful French oak aging to craft a Syrah that echoes the classic profile of the Northern Rhône. It is celebrated for its complex aromatic profile of dark bramble fruits, cracked black pepper, smoked meats, and a distinct, stony minerality that reflects its rugged volcanic terroir.

Owen Roe blev grundlagt i 1999 af vinmageren David O'Reilly og Jerry McNally med en klar ambition om at skabe terroir-drevne vine i verdensklasse fra de ypperste vinmarker i Pacific Northwest. Vingården er opkaldt efter den irske 1600-tals-patriot Owen Roe O'Neill og råder over egne faciliteter samt opkøber druer på tværs af både Columbia Valley og Yakima Valley i Washington samt Willamette Valley i Oregon. Owen Roe arbejder ud fra en filosofi om minimal indgriben, hvor nænsom vinfremstilling og en velafbalanceret fadlagring bringer det unikke særpræg frem fra berømte marker som DuBrul, Red Willow og Union Gap. Huset er særligt anerkendt for sine nuancerede enkeltmarks-vine på Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah og Cabernet Franc samt populære og karakterfulde blends som Sinister Hand, Ex Umbris og Abbot's Table.
