The Union Gap Vineyard Red Blend is a premier estate bottling from Owen Roe, sourced from their dramatically steep, south-facing estate vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Situated where the Yakima River cuts through the basalt ridges of the Rattlesnake Hills, this unique geological formation—the Union Gap—creates a natural wind funnel that moderates temperatures. The soil is a rugged mix of fractured basalt and cobblestones, forcing the vines to struggle and yield concentrated, mineral-driven fruit. This proprietary red blend typically marries the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with the plushness of Merlot and a touch of Syrah, all aged in French oak barrels. The resulting wine is celebrated for its complex layers of dark fruit, savory herbs, distinctive stony minerality, and refined, age-worthy tannins.

Owen Roe blev grundlagt i 1999 af vinmageren David O'Reilly og Jerry McNally med en klar ambition om at skabe terroir-drevne vine i verdensklasse fra de ypperste vinmarker i Pacific Northwest. Vingården er opkaldt efter den irske 1600-tals-patriot Owen Roe O'Neill og råder over egne faciliteter samt opkøber druer på tværs af både Columbia Valley og Yakima Valley i Washington samt Willamette Valley i Oregon. Owen Roe arbejder ud fra en filosofi om minimal indgriben, hvor nænsom vinfremstilling og en velafbalanceret fadlagring bringer det unikke særpræg frem fra berømte marker som DuBrul, Red Willow og Union Gap. Huset er særligt anerkendt for sine nuancerede enkeltmarks-vine på Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah og Cabernet Franc samt populære og karakterfulde blends som Sinister Hand, Ex Umbris og Abbot's Table.
