Hailing from the sun-drenched terraces of the Southern Rh$ne, Paul Jaboulet Aîné's Vieilles Vignes (typically sourced from the historic Plan de Dieu appellation) is a tribute to the region's ancient viticultural heritage. The name Plan de Dieu, or 'Plain of God,' dates back to the Middle Ages when travelers crossing this bandit-ridden, scrub-covered plain would commend their souls to God. Today, the area is celebrated for its exceptional terroir of deep clay-limestone soils covered with heat-retaining galets roulés (rounded stones). The old vines (vieilles vignes), often averaging over 40 years of age, naturally yield low quantities of highly concentrated fruit. Jaboulet vinifies this cuvée using traditional methods, utilizing concrete and stainless steel vats to preserve the vibrant, spicy red fruit character, garrigue herbs, and supple tannins characteristic of the Southern Rh$ne.

Founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet, Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the most revered estates in the Rhône Valley, situated along the storied slopes of Tain-l'Hermitage. Since 2006, the maison has entered a dynamic era under the leadership of the Frey family, with viticulturist and winemaker Caroline Frey converting the prized terroirs entirely to organic and biodynamic cultivation.
