First released in 1960, Penfolds Bin 2 is a historic Australian blend that celebrates the traditional partnership of Shiraz and Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre). In its early days, it was often referred to as an 'Australian Burgundy' style—a soft, medium-bodied red designed for approachable drinking. Although temporarily discontinued in the 1970s during a market shift toward white wines, it was successfully reintroduced and remains a favorite for its savory complexity. Mataro, which has thrived in South Australia since the 1830s, contributes earthy undertones, spice, and structural grip, perfectly balancing the plush, dark-fruit profile of the Shiraz. The wine is typically matured in seasoned oak to preserve its fresh, fruit-driven character and regional expression.
