Launched internally in 1995 as a secret 'Red Winemaking Trial' (hence the moniker RWT), this wine represented a bold, contemporary departure from Penfolds' traditional winemaking philosophy. While the legendary Grange championed multi-regional blending and robust American oak maturation, RWT was designed to showcase the singular terroir of the Barossa Valley matured exclusively in fine French oak. First released with the 1997 vintage, it redefined Australian Shiraz by prioritizing aromatic complexity, plush textures, and fleshy fruit over sheer muscular power. Now officially designated as Bin 798, it stands as a modern masterpiece of elegance and opulent Barossa character.

Founded in 1844 by Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary at the Magill Estate in South Australia, Penfolds is one of Australia's oldest and most iconic wine producers.
