Sourced primarily from the cool-climate vineyards of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, this wine represents a contemporary, refined approach to Australian Chardonnay. Unlike the heavy, buttery styles of the past, the Cellar Reserve focuses on purity of fruit, vibrant natural acidity, and structural complexity. It is typically fermented using wild yeasts in French oak barriques, with a portion undergoing malolactic fermentation to add texture and creaminess without overshadowing the bright citrus and stone fruit characters. This range allows Penfolds' winemakers to push boundaries, resulting in a sophisticated white wine that beautifully marries cool-climate terroir with classic French oak integration.

Penfolds blev grundlagt i 1844 af dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold og hans hustru Mary på Magill Estate i South Australia og er i dag et af Australiens ældste og mest ikoniske vinhuse. Ejendommen opnåede legendarisk international anerkendelse i 1950'erne under den visionære chefvinmager Max Schubert, som skabte Penfolds Grange og revolutionerede landets vinfremstilling. Drevet af en berømt filosofi om at blande på tværs af regioner og druesorter udvælger Penfolds enestående druer fra historiske australske terroirs – herunder Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale og Coonawarra – samt fra udvalgte internationale topområder. Vinhuset er verdenskendt for kraftfulde, upåklageligt strukturerede og særdeles lagringsværdige vine anført af flagskibet Grange, Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon og den berømmede Bin-serie.
