These components are matured in seasoned oak casks, utilizing a solera-style blending system where older, highly concentrated material is refreshed with younger, vibrant parcels. The name references a historic selection of five exceptional barrels set aside by the winemakers for their extraordinary depth, complexity, and rancio character. This tawny showcases luscious notes of dried fruits, toasted nuts, and integrated spirit, reflecting the warm, sun-drenched vineyards of South Australia.

Penfolds blev grundlagt i 1844 af dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold og hans hustru Mary på Magill Estate i South Australia og er i dag et af Australiens ældste og mest ikoniske vinhuse. Ejendommen opnåede legendarisk international anerkendelse i 1950'erne under den visionære chefvinmager Max Schubert, som skabte Penfolds Grange og revolutionerede landets vinfremstilling. Drevet af en berømt filosofi om at blande på tværs af regioner og druesorter udvælger Penfolds enestående druer fra historiske australske terroirs – herunder Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale og Coonawarra – samt fra udvalgte internationale topområder.
