✨ Technical Specifications
The Colheita Bual from Pereira D'Oliveira represents a magnificent expression of Madeira's medium-sweet style, sourced from the noble Bual grape. These grapes are traditionally grown on the steep, volcanic terraced vineyards of Madeira's southern coast, where they bask in warm sunshine to develop rich sugars balanced by vibrant, electric acidity. Unlike Frasqueira Madeiras which require a minimum of 20 years in wood, Colheitas are single-vintage wines aged for at least five years in seasoned oak casks under the traditional canteiro system. In D'Oliveira's historic cellars in Funchal, these casks sit in warm attics, undergoing a gentle, decades-long thermal oxidation. This process caramelizes the sugars and concentrates the wine, yielding complex aromas of dried fruits, warm spices, toasted nuts, and singed orange peel. The legendary resilience of these wines is tied to the island's maritime history, where barrels originally crossed the equator on ships, proving that heat and air only serve to make Madeira immortal.
