The wine undergoes the traditional canteiro aging process, resting in seasoned oak casks in the warm upper lofts of the family's Funchal cellars. Over fifteen years of gentle, warm oxidation and evaporation, the wine concentrates, trading its searing youthful acidity for a complex tapestry of dried orange peel, walnut, saline minerality, and a distinctive smoky undertone.
