Sourced from the steep, volcanic terraces of Madeira, this dry style is primarily shaped by the high-acid Sercial grape, grown on the island's cooler, high-altitude northern slopes. The wine undergoes the traditional canteiro aging process, resting in seasoned oak casks in the warm upper lofts of the family's Funchal cellars. Over fifteen years of gentle, warm oxidation and evaporation, the wine concentrates, trading its searing youthful acidity for a complex tapestry of dried orange peel, walnut, saline minerality, and a distinctive smoky undertone. This slow, deliberate maturation pays homage to the historic sea voyages of the 17th and 18th centuries, which originally defined the legendary resilience and character of Madeira wines.
