Hailing from the volcanic, sun-drenched terraces of Madeira, Pereira D'Oliveira's Malvasia Colheita represents the pinnacle of the island's sweetest noble style. Malvasia, historically known as Malmsey, has captivated historical figures from Shakespearean characters to European monarchs. Cultivated primarily on the lower coastal slopes of the island, the grapes develop rich sugars while retaining a vibrant, life-giving acidity thanks to the basaltic soils and maritime winds. Under the meticulous canteiro system, the wine is gently heated in seasoned oak casks in the warm attics of Funchal. This slow, oxidative maturation coaxes out complex layers of dark molasses, dried figs, roasted nuts, and exotic spices, balanced by a striking, clean finish that prevents the sweetness from ever feeling heavy.
