While Madeira is famous for its noble grapes, the rare Moscatel bottlings from Pereira D'Oliveira represent some of the most exotic and legendary treasures of the island. Moscatel Gra)do (Muscat of Alexandria) was historically planted in small quantities, but phylloxera and changing fashions made it exceptionally scarce. D'Oliveira is one of the few houses to have preserved historic parcels of this varietal, aging them in seasoned oak casks under the traditional canteiro system. Over decades of gentle heating in the warm lofts of Funchal, the wine undergoes a magical transformation. The inherent floral and grapey aromatics of Moscatel fuse with the intense, oxidative complexity of long wood aging, resulting in a dark, viscous nectar balanced by Madeira's signature electric acidity.

Founded in 1850 by João Pereira d'Oliveira, Pereira D'Oliveira is an esteemed, independent family-owned Madeira house based in the historic center of Funchal on Madeira Island, Portugal. Renowned for its vast reserves of historic library stocks acquired through family heritage and the assimilation of notable historic lodges, the house practices traditional canteiro aging in seasoned oak casks, allowing natural warmth to slowly concentrate and mature the wines over decades or even centuries. Under generations of family stewardship, the house crafts exceptionally long-lived, complex fortified wines renowned for their vivid acidity and depth, spanning dry to luscious styles made from noble varieties including Sercial, Verdelho, Bual, Malvasia, and legendary rare bottlings of Terrantez.
