While Madeira is famous for its noble grapes, the rare Moscatel bottlings from Pereira D'Oliveira represent some of the most exotic and legendary treasures of the island. Moscatel Gra)do (Muscat of Alexandria) was historically planted in small quantities, but phylloxera and changing fashions made it exceptionally scarce. D'Oliveira is one of the few houses to have preserved historic parcels of this varietal, aging them in seasoned oak casks under the traditional canteiro system. Over decades of gentle heating in the warm lofts of Funchal, the wine undergoes a magical transformation. The inherent floral and grapey aromatics of Moscatel fuse with the intense, oxidative complexity of long wood aging, resulting in a dark, viscous nectar balanced by Madeira's signature electric acidity.

Pereira D'Oliveira (i daglig tale blot D'Oliveira) er et af Madeiras mest historiske og agtede uafhængige vinhuse, grundlagt i 1850 af João Pereira D'Oliveira. Huset har til huse i det centrale Funchal i kældre, der kan dateres helt tilbage til 1619. I dag ledes det af femte og sjette generation af D'Oliveira-familien, hvor administrerende direktør Luís D'Oliveira og chefønolog Filipe D'Oliveira værner om de nedarvede traditioner. Hvor huset historisk set dyrkede sine egne vinmarker i São Martinho, opkøber man nu druer fra over hundrede faste avlere, som opdyrker de barske, stejle vulkanske terrasser rundt om på den subtropiske atlanterhavsø. D'Oliveiras vinstil er kendetegnet ved en exceptionel kraft, en rank, naturlig syre og en uovertruffen oxidativ koncentration, skabt via den klassiske canteiro-lagring på ældgamle egetræsfade. Vinhuset råder over et af verdens mest imponerende biblioteker af vintage-Madeira og tapper århundredgamle Frasqueiras efter behov. Juvelerne i samlingen er monumentale årgangsaftapninger af Sercial, Verdelho, Boal og Malvazia Cândida samt uhyre sjældne, vellagrede udgaver af Terrantez, Moscatel og enkeltmarks- eller enkeltårgangs-Tinta Negra.
